On 1st June 2025, Mark 6 Feeding Inc. organized a vital community outreach program in Sasabi, a rural community under the Kpone Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA) in the Greater Accra Region. The outreach aimed to empower mothers with practical knowledge on complementary feeding, focusing on how to use locally available foods to prepare nutritious meals for their children.
Complementary feeding plays a crucial role in a child's physical and cognitive development between the ages of 6 months and 2 years. Recognizing the gap in nutrition education at the community level, our team engaged over 74 mothers, 115 children, and 53 adolescents in a day filled with learning, practical demonstrations, and nourishment.
One of the highlights of the outreach was a live food demonstration session, where mothers were taught how to fortify Yam Porridge (popularly known as Mportormpotor) with plant-based protein using ingredients that are affordable and accessible in their local markets.
The session emphasized the use of legumes, seeds, and nuts to increase the nutritional value of everyday meals. Mothers actively participated, asked questions, and expressed deep appreciation for the practical approach that directly addressed their daily realities.
The event was not only educational but also nourishing. Various fruits were served to promote natural sources of vitamins and fiber, and the children were fed with locally prepared nutritious meals.
As part of the outreach, each child went home with two packs of cereals and two packs of food supplements, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring sustained nutrition support even beyond the day’s activities.
This outreach not only equipped mothers with knowledge but also strengthened trust between our organization and the local community. We were inspired by the eagerness of the mothers to adopt better feeding practices and their enthusiasm to spread the information within their households.
Mark 6 Feeding Inc. remains dedicated to creating sustainable, community-driven change in the fight against malnutrition. We believe in educating from the ground up — equipping families not just with food, but with the knowledge and confidence to nourish their own children using what they have.
We look forward to expanding our outreach programs to more underserved communities within the KKDA and across Ghana. To support or partner with us in future initiatives, please contact us or visit our donation page.
